Guide: supplements and medicines
Can You Take SciatiEase With Other Medications? Gabapentin, Eliquis and More
You can take SciatiEase with many other medications, but ask your doctor or pharmacist first. A few ingredients drive most cautions: feverfew and Chinese skullcap may add to bleeding with blood thinners like Eliquis, and R-alpha lipoic acid may lower blood sugar. No interaction study has tested SciatiEase itself.

The short version01
Can you take SciatiEase with other medications?
Often yes, after a check with your pharmacist. A handful of the 12 label lines matter for drug interactions.
Most label lines have few listed drug problems; riboflavin has none that matter in practice (NIH ODS, Riboflavin). The flags gather around the herbs, R-ALA, acetyl-L-carnitine and three B vitamins. The amounts come from the Supplement Facts panel.
| Ingredient | Amount | Ask about | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feverfew | At most 50 mg | Blood thinners, NSAIDs | Blocks platelets (MSKCC, Feverfew) |
| Chinese skullcap | At most about 16.7 mg | Blood thinners, rosuvastatin | Bleeding; lower statin levels (MSKCC, Scutellaria baicalensis) |
| R-alpha lipoic acid | 250 mg | Insulin, diabetes pills | May lower blood sugar (Linus Pauling Institute, Lipoic Acid) |
| Passionflower | At most 25 mg | Sedatives, anesthesia | Drowsiness (NCCIH, Passionflower) |
| Folate | 500 mcg DFE | Methotrexate for cancer | Oncologist should agree (NIH ODS, Folate) |
Gabapentin and pregabalin02
Is it safe to take a nerve supplement with gabapentin or pregabalin?
No direct interaction with the SciatiEase ingredients shows up in our sources, but the calming herbs may stack on drowsiness.
In a sciatica trial, pregabalin caused more dizziness than placebo (Mathieson et al., NEJM 2017 (PRECISE)). Passionflower can bring drowsiness, dizziness and confusion of its own (NCCIH, Passionflower).
The same trial found pregabalin no better than placebo for leg pain, and NICE advises against gabapentinoids for sciatica (NICE NG59, Low back pain and sciatica). That is a talk to have with your doctor.
Change no dose because you started a supplement. Ask the prescriber first.
Blood thinners03
Which nerve supplement ingredients affect Eliquis and other blood thinners?
Feverfew and Chinese skullcap. Both may slow clotting, and that can add up with apixaban, warfarin or clopidogrel.
Feverfew blocks platelet activity (MSKCC, Feverfew), and skullcap may add to bleeding with anticoagulants (MSKCC, Scutellaria baicalensis). The apixaban (Eliquis) label asks you to report every supplement and names NSAIDs and St. John's wort as interactions (MedlinePlus, Apixaban).
Ending Eliquis early raises stroke risk, the label warns, so the only open question is adding SciatiEase.
On Eliquis, spinal or epidural procedures carry a risk of a spinal clot (MedlinePlus, Apixaban). NCCIH advises leaving feverfew off for 2 weeks before surgery (NCCIH, Feverfew).
Diabetes medicines04
Can you take SciatiEase with metformin or insulin?
Ask first. Alpha-lipoic acid may lower blood sugar, and metformin can drain the B12 the capsules add.
People on insulin or diabetes pills are told to watch their glucose when they add alpha-lipoic acid (Linus Pauling Institute, Lipoic Acid). A rare immune reaction to ALA has caused repeated lows (Vallianou et al., Metabol Open 2026).
Metformin can lower B12 over time (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12), and low B12 causes numbness much like diabetic nerve damage. A blood test is worth asking about.

Is a nerve supplement safe during chemotherapy or with seizure medicines?
Clear it with your cancer team or neurologist first. Two ingredients explain why.
In 409 women on taxane chemotherapy, acetyl-L-carnitine at 3,000 mg a day made nerve damage worse by week 24 (Hershman et al., J Clin Oncol 2013). SciatiEase holds 250 mg; lower doses were not tested.
Valproate, phenytoin and carbamazepine lower carnitine levels (NIH ODS, Carnitine). B6 at 200 mg a day may lower phenytoin and phenobarbital levels (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6); SciatiEase has 20 mg.

How do you check a medicine against SciatiEase?
Search the list, then answer six questions. Take the result to your pharmacist.
The list covers the drug groups people ask about most. A medicine missing from it is not proof of safety.
Not on this list. Ask your pharmacist; the list is not complete.
- Gabapentin or pregabalinUse care
No direct interaction with the label ingredients is listed in the sources we checked. Passionflower and skullcap may add to the drowsiness these medicines cause. Pregabalin did no better than placebo for sciatica in one large trial, which is worth discussing with your doctor; do not stop either drug on your own. (NCCIH, Passionflower) (Mathieson et al., NEJM 2017 (PRECISE))
- Apixaban (Eliquis), warfarin and other blood thinnersAsk first
Feverfew and Chinese skullcap may slow clotting and add to bleeding risk. The Eliquis label asks you to tell your doctor about every supplement. Ask your prescriber before you start. (MSKCC, Feverfew) (MSKCC, Scutellaria baicalensis) (MedlinePlus, Apixaban)
- Diabetes medicines (insulin, sulfonylureas, metformin)Ask first
Alpha-lipoic acid may lower blood sugar and add to diabetes drugs. Metformin can lower B12 over time, which the 1,000 mcg of B12 may offset; your doctor can check your level. (Linus Pauling Institute, Lipoic Acid) (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12) (Vallianou et al., Metabol Open 2026)
- Cholesterol medicine (rosuvastatin)Use care
Chinese skullcap lowered rosuvastatin levels in a small study of volunteers. Ask your pharmacist if you take a statin. (MSKCC, Scutellaria baicalensis)
- ChemotherapyAsk first
Acetyl-L-carnitine made chemotherapy nerve damage worse in one large trial, and antioxidants during treatment should be cleared with your cancer team. (Hershman et al., J Clin Oncol 2013)
- Sedatives, sleep aids, opioids and alcoholUse care
Passionflower and Chinese skullcap may add to drowsiness. Avoid driving until you know how you react. (NCCIH, Passionflower) (MSKCC, Scutellaria baicalensis)
- Seizure medicines (phenytoin, valproate)Ask first
Vitamin B6 interacts with some seizure medicines, and valproate, phenytoin and similar drugs lower carnitine levels, according to NIH. Ask your neurologist first. (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6) (NIH ODS, Carnitine)
- NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen)Use care
NSAIDs and feverfew both affect platelets, so bleeding risk may add up, especially with a blood thinner. NSAIDs gave only a small benefit for sciatica in trials. (MSKCC, Feverfew) (Rasmussen-Barr et al., Cochrane 2016)
A short list built from NIH, MSKCC and trial sources, not a full interaction check. Bring the bottle or the Supplement Facts panel to your pharmacist. Keep taking prescribed medicine.
Six questions before your first capsule
NSAIDs07
Can you take ibuprofen or naproxen with a nerve supplement?
Usually, but feverfew and NSAIDs both affect platelets, so bleeding risk may add up on a blood thinner.
In a Cochrane review, NSAIDs eased sciatica pain no better than placebo in three trials of 918 people, and side effects were more common (Rasmussen-Barr et al., Cochrane 2016).

FAQ08
Supplements and medicines: more questions
What are the side effects of nerve supplements?
They depend on the ingredients. In studies, alpha-lipoic acid caused nausea or rash, high-dose acetyl-L-carnitine upset the stomach, and long, high B6 intake caused tingling (Linus Pauling Institute, Lipoic Acid) (NIH ODS, Carnitine) (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6). PEA showed no major side effects across 11 trials (Lang-Illievich et al., Nutrients 2023).
Is a nerve supplement a medicine?
No. A nerve supplement like SciatiEase is sold as a dietary supplement, and the FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Using Dietary Supplements). It can still interact with medicines, so list it with your prescriptions.
Does SciatiEase interact with Lyrica?
No direct interaction appears in the sources we checked. Passionflower and skullcap may add to the dizziness and sleepiness pregabalin (Lyrica) can cause (NCCIH, Passionflower) (Mathieson et al., NEJM 2017 (PRECISE)). Ask your prescriber before combining them.
Can I take SciatiEase with warfarin?
Only after your prescriber agrees. Feverfew and Chinese skullcap may add to bleeding risk with anticoagulants such as warfarin (MSKCC, Feverfew) (MSKCC, Scutellaria baicalensis). Tell the clinic that manages your dose before your first capsule.
Can I take SciatiEase with a statin?
Ask your pharmacist. Chinese skullcap lowered rosuvastatin levels in healthy volunteers (MSKCC, Scutellaria baicalensis). The skullcap amount in SciatiEase is hidden inside a 50 mg blend, and our sources do not cover other statins.
Do I need to tell my surgeon I take SciatiEase?
Yes. Feverfew may slow clotting and passionflower may interact with anesthesia, so NCCIH asks people to tell their provider within 2 weeks of surgery (NCCIH, Feverfew) (NCCIH, Passionflower).
